A cross-strait model of higher education, serving as a flagship modern industry college at Dongguan University of Technology.
Established in 2015, the Guangdong–Taiwan College of Industrial Science and Technology is the first Guangdong–Taiwan higher education cooperation project approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, with its own independent enrollment code. It is recognized as a Guangdong Provincial Demonstration Modern Industry College and serves as a flagship industry college at Dongguan University of Technology.
The College is jointly operated by Dongguan University of Technology, the Dongguan Taiwan Businessmen’s Yumiao Education Foundation, and partner universities in Taiwan. It offers undergraduate programs in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Industrial Design, and Economics and Finance. Currently, the College enrolls over 1,000 students, including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
The College leverages the advantages of cross-strait higher education cooperation to drive institutional innovation in cultivating emerging engineering talent. Through a strong alliance of advantageous disciplines and programs from universities on both sides, it has established a “3+1” cooperation and exchange model. By integrating Taiwan’s engineering teaching experience with the strengths of mainland higher education, the College systematically advances the “three-pronged” strategic deployment of education, technology, and talent. Highlighting deep industry-education integration, comprehensive school-enterprise collaboration, and multi-party collaborative innovation, the College fully leverages its unique strengths. Situated at the intersection of the Greater Bay Area (also known as the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Economic Corridor), this region serves as Guangdong’s advanced manufacturing hub and a global benchmark for development — the College aligns itself with the global modern industrial system. Upholding the fundamental mission of developing student potential through education and aiming to cultivate high-quality, application-oriented innovative talent, the College integrates resources, fosters industry-education synergy, and focuses on building innovative practical abilities. This approach promotes the cultivation of high-quality talent and ensures an effective supply of outstanding professionals for regional industries and enterprises.
Thanks to its rapid overall development, outstanding student performance, and remarkable practical service outcomes, the College has won high recognition from the government and industry organizations. Over the past decade since its establishment, the College has been awarded the “Special Contribution Award for Exchanges and Cooperation between Dongguan and Taiwan” by the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPC and the Dongguan Municipal Government. Students have repeatedly won gold medals in major global academic competitions, and many have been admitted to prestigious universities at home and abroad for master’s and doctoral degrees. Faculty and student achievements in serving enterprises through technological innovation have been highly significant, earning the College an industry reputation that “the industry sets the questions, and Guangdong-Taiwan solves them.” Graduates are widely regarded by the industry as “practical and competent.” These accomplishments have been featured by Xinhua News Agency and Guangming Daily.
Striving to provide students with a sense of progress, faculty with a sense of belonging, the team with a sense of achievement, and recognized advancement, the College promotes its development from intangible to tangible, from tangible to standardized, and from standardized to professional. Through lean team management, meticulous focus, refined cooperation, and prudent development, the College aims to build a benchmark for cooperative education between universities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
